Inside the Space and Menu of Genesis House

โ€œGenesis House is a unique oasis in the heart of New York City. The entire concept is unlike anything I have experienced here in New York, and thatโ€™s a difficult task considering the cityโ€™s incredibly competitive restaurant scene,โ€ Executive Chef Losa Salvieus Yi told us. โ€œFrom the vegetables that accompany a dish to the silverware on each table, every single element of the restaurant holds significant meaning, and our kitchen staff is just as meticulous behind the scenes. Authentic Korean cuisine is a rare gem in New York City in its own right, but the history and tradition that is infused into the Genesis House experience make it all that much more unique.โ€

Genesis House collaborated with Onjium on its three principlesโ€”clothing, housing and food. โ€œEach menu at Genesis House is inspired by the brilliant work of Onjium, the Michelin-star restaurant and research institute located in Seoul, Korea,โ€ Yi explained. โ€œA core principle of Genesis House is keeping traditional Korean culture and cuisine alive, which our newest Spring Menu encapsulates through influences of the Korean Goryeo dynasty that dates back to 918. Many of the items found on the menu are prepared in specific accordance with their cultural importance in Korea, and we have some of the most talented chefs working in our kitchen to recreate these historically significant dishes. The cuisine ranges from fish and seasonal vegetables to fresh noodles and small plates that reflect the northern region of Seoul in their preparation and taste.โ€

The restaurantโ€™s menu was significantly influenced by Yiโ€™s culinary background and her upbringing in Korea. โ€œHaving been born in Korea, Iโ€™ve always had a deep appreciation for the cuisine that I grew up with,โ€ Yi told us. โ€œAfter returning to Seoul to further refine my skills and immerse myself in traditional Korean culinary practices, I felt compelled to continue honoring my culture through food here in New York. Iโ€™m excited to have the opportunity to carry what Iโ€™ve learned both at home and abroad to the Genesis House kitchen.โ€

Genesis House aims to present a new Korean dining experience for visitors. โ€œMost New Yorkers think of barbecue when they think of Korean cuisine. I want diners to experience the oneness that Genesis House offers to everyone who sets foot through the door, from recurring guests to first-time visitors,โ€ Yi explained. โ€œWhile great food is essential to the success of any New York restaurant, creating a space that energizes and inspires guests is really important to Genesis House. From the traditional inspired tea service to the expertly executed tasting menu, our goal is for our guests to leave with full minds, souls, and stomachs as a result of the impeccable service offered by our staff.โ€
