A Taste of Kokomo in NYC

“I started in hospitality 20 years ago as an events coordinator, and later on, I transitioned into hosting private dinner parties for celebrity clients,” Graham explained. “My main focus has always been to provide an experience that is memorable and different. Sometimes I believe people in this industry forget that we are trying to make people happy, so I strive to provide that above anything.”

Kokomo brings a new dining experience and setting to New York City. “My wife and I wanted to highlight the Caribbean culinary experience in a way that was new and creative,” Graham told us. “We decided to pair and combine authentic recipes from different areas of the Caribbean. We strive to give our audiences traditional Caribbean foods in a not-so-traditional but creative way.”

Diners at Kokomo can enjoy unique and exotic flavors on the menu, including the Oxtail Flatbread, Jackfruit Tacos, Coconut Curry Mussels, Roasted Stuffed Sweet Plantains and the Coconut Lime Salmon Filet. “The Caribbean flatbreads are a staple of the restaurant, which are unique combinations of traditional Caribbean ingredients served on our brick oven flatbreads,” Graham said of the menu. “The flatbreads are composed of different things I grew up eating as a child. My favorite flatbread is the Wah Gwann flatbread which consists of ackee (the traditional fruit of Jamaica) that is normally served with saltfish. We decided to pair it with marinated shrimp, tomato confit and scotch bonnet cilantro, making it a sweet, savory and creative dish overall. You can only get this flatbread at Kokomo.”

If you’re in need of an island getaway, Kokomo is a fantastic option when you can’t take the time (or expense) to get out of NYC. “Each room in Kokomo is meant to transport patrons to a different place in the Caribbean,” Graham told us. “We want you to feel like you are on your favorite Caribbean island when you dine at Kokomo.” Diners are in for a great meal no matter when they visit. “The ambiance at the restaurant plays hand in hand with our food. I feel like every bite of food takes you back to the Caribbean, along with our amazing design. We also have some really amazing and creative cocktails. For example, the “Plantini, which is made with roasted plantains and pureed to its simplest form and infused with rum.”
