Xharlie Black and the House Band of Mad Apple

Mad Apple by Cirque du Soleil at New York-New York Hotel & Casino is one of the hottest new tickets in Las Veags. With the mesmerizing performances of Cirque du Soleilโ€™s signature acrobats, contortionists and circus-style acts, the show offers a unique experience you wonโ€™t find elsewhere. What sets Mad Apple apart from other Cirque du Soleil shows is its energetic setting, world-class comedians and the showโ€™s exceptional house band, led by the talented Xharlie Black.ย

Xharlie Blackโ€™s distinct voice and musical direction elevate the show to another level, making it a unique experience for the audience. The house band frequently moves from the stage to within the audience, making Mad Apple a more immersive experience. We talked with the Las Vegas performer and father of three, as he shares his favorite spots to eat, drink and explore in Sin City.

Performer’s Guide to Las Vegas: Xharlie Black from Mad Apple

What brought you to Las Vegas?
Black- Joining the Cirque du Soleil family in their newest production, Mad Apple.

Where are you from, and how long have you lived in Las Vegas?
Black- Born in Los Angeles, CA. Living in Vegas for about a year now.ย

What is your favorite way to spend an evening/afternoon if youโ€™re going to the Strip?
Black- Any Cirque show is a must-see. Definitely gonna eat something incredible. Iโ€™m a big fan of Asian cuisine, so Din Tai Fung is a solid go-to. Wicked Spoon at The Cosmopolitan is INCREDIBLE! And at some point, I would have to go people-watching at pretty much any lounge. The uninhibited dance-like movement of the overworked weekenders + the half-committed passion of the house band = my kind of night.

What do you love best about Las Vegas?
Black- Itโ€™s the diversity for me. From the food to the people, the entertainment and the living situation, itโ€™s a great place to totally dive into a wild night and then drive 15 minutes to go home and leave it all behind. Thereโ€™s plenty of room for the adults to play, and thereโ€™s plenty of space for family time.

If someone asks you for dinner recommendations in Las Vegas, what do you suggest?
Black- My house, of course. Iโ€™m definitely the best chef in Vegas. But if Iโ€™m busy that night, I would highly recommend Ramen Show 2. Again, big fan of Asian cuisine, especially ramen. The gyoza are unreal.ย

Where are some of your favorite places to go and things to do in Las Vegas on your day off?
Black- I spend my time off hanging with the kids, so our hang-out spots are mostly parks and more recreational things. Vegas has quite a few really nice parks too. Sunset Park is probably the most frequently visited for me. I havenโ€™t been yet, but I hear Mt. Charleston is beautiful. Iโ€™ll def be taking that trip as soon as the weather permits.
