M5LV Brings the Best Hits of Maroon 5 to Las Vegas
The show opens on a high note with a fun video reel custom-made for the band’s M5LV residency before launching into a high-energy performance of Animals. Audience members stayed on their feet through several tracks, including One More Night, Stereo Hearts, and the band’s first hit, Harder to Breathe, before taking a break to sway to the beloved track Sunday Morning.
The night takes fans on a journey through Maroon 5’s decades-long career with home videos from childhood through their rise to stardom. One of the most poignant parts of the evening was the band’s tribute to former manager Jordan Feldstein. The track Memories was written for him from the album Jordi, which was dedicated in his honor. This was one of the few moments of the night when audience members weren’t on their feet dancing—there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
The setlist is made up almost entirely of number-one songs and chart-toppers; you don’t have to be a hardcore fan to enjoy the show. In fact, aside from listening to Maroon 5’s debut album nonstop back in 2002, the majority of my familiarity with their tracks has been from the radio. Even so, I recognized every single song and enjoyed every minute of the show.
The show’s encore brought Maroon 5 directly into the audience for a rendition of She Will Be Loved. The song was performed from a step built for Usher’s residency—the two share Dolby Live. Adam Levine joked about the step, giving thanks to Usher for its existence and his use of the space, “I just wanted to take the time to ask Usher—he’s not here, don’t freak out—if it would be cool if I used his spot. Cuz I like it, and I think we can share the step. You know what I’m saying? So thank you, Usher.” He then gave a heartfelt thank you to audience members for the massive turnout, “I want to thank all of you guys for being here on the first night—on opening night. It’s an amazing feeling! We love you for it so much. And nothing went terribly wrong, which is an amazing way to end the night on our first night. We haven’t screwed up yet! But we still have time.”
