On the Slopes- Lake Louise Ski Resort

Lake Louise Ski Resort is an incredible ski destination located in the heart of Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Situated in the majestic Rocky Mountains, this world-renowned ski resort offers breathtaking views, perfect powder skiing and a variety of runs suitable for all levels of ability. With its diverse terrain, Lake Louise Ski Resort boasts something for everyone, from first-time skiers to experienced athletes. Offering 4200 acres of skiable terrain, including beginner areas, gladed ski terrain and wide-open bowls for advanced riders, Lake Louise Ski Resort is one of North America’s premier mountain resorts.

Five Things to Know About Lake Louise Ski Resort

Getting Here

If you’re staying in Banff, getting to Lake Louise Ski Resort is extremely easy. On my last visit, I didn’t rent a car because public transportation and ski resort transport options are plentiful. The Lake Louise shuttle picks up and drops off at numerous spots along Banff Avenue, so it’s likely going to be very easy for you to find a bus stop near your hotel. You can also opt to take the ROAM Transit bus from Banff to Lake Louise and catch the Lake Louise Ski Bus from there if you’re not in a rush.

Emergency Services

Nobody wants to think about getting injured while enjoying a day on the slopes; however, accidents happen. I grew up skiing on this mountain, but on my first visit back as an adult, I took a bad fall, avoiding a collision. Before you head up the mountain, make sure to save the Patrol Dispatch number on your phone (1.403.522.1311). When I needed to call for an evac down the mountain, it was easy and fast. Make sure to have an idea of where on the mountain you are (the last sign you passed is helpful and, of course, which trail) so they can locate you quickly and easily.

Delicious Dining

Lake Louise Ski Resort has numerous dining options located at both the base and on-mountain. If you’re worried about timing, take the first bus out and get breakfast here. There are plenty of options, from grab-and-go pastries and drinks at Slopeside Coffee to more substantial breakfast fare at the Lodge of Ten Peaks Cafeteria. You also don’t have to head back down for lunch— quick picks can be found at Temple Café, casual fare is available at Sawyer’s Nook, and sit-down options with stunning views can be found at Whitehorn Bistro. If you do make the trip back to base for your mid-day meal, Bier Stube has a wide selection of beers, sliders and pretzels for a quick fix, and Kuma Yama offers sushi and ramen.

Back Bowls

Don’t forget to check your trail map for the amazing trails on the Back Bowls! If you’re new to skiing, one of the most basic green trails is Pika, which can be found on the Back Bowl. Many resorts don’t offer the option to ski on both sides of the mountain, so make the most of your visit and enjoy all of the amazing views from both sides!

More Than Skiing and Snowboarding

If you’re curious about the resort but aren’t a skier (or snowboarder), there are still plenty of activities for you! Grizzly Gondola operates as a sightseeing gondola, so you can enjoy the gorgeous views from the top of the mountain (make sure to dress appropriately). Sunny Tube Park offers guests the chance to snow tube their way down some of the hills in a safe environment. Guided snowshoe tours are also offered throughout the season during the day and at night, so you can see the winter wonderland from a new perspective.
