Looking for a unique and exciting spot in New York City? Look no further than Roosevelt Island! This charming island nestled in the East River is home to many attractions sure to impress visitors of all ages and interests.

One of the more popular ways to get to Roosevelt Island is by taking theย Roosevelt Island Tramway, an aerial cable car that offers stunning views of the city skyline. The Tramway departs every 7-15 minutes from the Manhattan station located at 59th Street and 2nd Avenue and arrives at the Roosevelt Island station in less than five minutes. For those who prefer a more conventional method of transportation, the island is also accessible by subway, with the F train stopping at the Roosevelt Island station. Additionally, visitors can take a bus, bike, or walk across the Roosevelt Island Bridge, which connects Queens and Roosevelt Island.

One such attraction is theย Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park, which is dedicated to the legacy of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his vision of freedom and democracy. Here, visitors can soak in splendid views of the Manhattan skyline and take peaceful walks along the riverside promenade while learning about Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.ย

For history buffs, the Smallpox Memorial Hospital, also known as theย Renwick Ruin, offers a glimpse into the medical history and architectural beauty of the island. This renowned building was designed by James Renwick Jr., the same architect behindย St. Patrick’s Cathedralย in Manhattan. Today, the abandoned but charming ruins provide the perfect backdrop for photos and a little soul-searching.
