Another exceptional production is Stereophonic, which has also garnered 13 Tony nominations. Written by David Adjmi and directed by Daniel Aukin, this electrifying play dives into the intense process of a band’s rise to fame, set in a 1976 music studio and featuring original music by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler.

Next up is The Outsiders, a gripping new musical that has earned 12 Tony nominations. Set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, it follows the turbulent lives of Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and their group of “outsiders” as they navigate a world that often marginalizes them, bringing a fresh perspective to a timeless story of brotherhood and resilience.

One of the most intriguing productions this season is Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, which has secured nine Tony nominations. Set in the throes of 1931 Berlin, this visionary new staging by Josh Rhodes captures the turbulent atmosphere with its iconic Kander and Ebb score, promising an immersive and thought-provoking theatrical experience.

Appropriate has been honored with eight Tony nominations this season. Set against the backdrop of a sweltering Arkansas summer, the Lafayette family’s reunion to settle their deceased patriarch’s estate quickly unearths long-buried secrets and unresolved tensions, leading to a riveting exploration of familial bonds and legacies. Catch it while you can—the show is slated to close on June 23.

Water for Elephants has captivated audiences with its enchanting adaptation of Sara Gruen’s beloved novel, earning seven Tony nominations in the process. Set against the backdrop of a Depression-era traveling circus, this visually stunning production transports viewers into a world of romance, adventure, and wonder.

Drawing inspiration from the suffragists of 1913 America, Suffs has earned six Tony nominations by bringing to life the fervent struggle for women’s voting rights. This compelling production delves into the diverse and often divided suffrage movement, highlighting the courage and resilience of the women who shaped history and continue to inspire future generations.

Illinoise has garnered four Tony nominations, captivating audiences with its blend of live music, evocative choreography, and heartfelt storytelling. Based on Sufjan Stevens’ seminal album, this production weaves together tales of first love, grief, and maturation in a unique, campfire-like setting, brought to life by an 11-member band and director Justin Peck’s visionary choreography.

Mother Play has earned four Tony nominations with its compelling narrative set in 1962 just outside of D.C., where matriarch Phyllis imposes her rigid expectations on her teenage children as they settle into a new apartment. This thought-provoking drama, rich with imaginative theatrical elements and poignant moments, will close on June 16.

Mary Jane has received four Tony nominations for its poignant portrayal of a single mother navigating a challenging family situation. Closing on June 16, the show masterfully depicts Mary Jane’s journey, filled with optimism, humor, and the support of a close-knit community of women.
