Nobody knows a city like the local concierge team. With the inside track on all the best places to dine, shows to see, and things to do, they’re a wealth of knowledge for all travelers. We talk with a top local hotel concierge in New York City to get the inside scoop on all their expert tips.

Jen Foti, General Manager of Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square Central

Why do you refer your guests to The Welcome Guide®, and what makes it an important resource for you?
The Welcome Guide® lists all the latest monthly events, and there’s a free map to help you get to wherever you want to go.

What should be on every visitor’s “bucket list” when visiting?
Watch a Broadway show at any of the 40-plus theaters in Midtown Manhattan. Taking in a musical or play is absolutely a cultural highlight.

What’s an excellent spot to capture a great selfie?
Go to Duffy Square—it’s the northern triangle of Times Square—and take a selfie from the steps.

What is the best suggestion you can give a first-time visitor?
Take one of the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tours—they’re perfect for sightseeing, with stops near all the iconic landmarks.

If someone only had 24 hours in NYC, where would you send them?
Of course, 24 hours isn’t enough! But here’s a plan: Go to the High Line and Hudson Yards; be sure to check out the Vessel and the Edge NYC. Next, ride the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and
then head to SoHo for some shopping. In the evening, see a musical or a play on Broadway.

For a guest looking for a night on the town, what would you recommend?
Check out any
of the amazingly good local restaurants and bars on the Lower East Side, like Katra or Champagne Problems.

Any suggestions for the best under-the-radar sites or uncommon things to do?
Take a downtown culinary tour, like the NYC Food Tour of Chinatown and Little Italy.

What is your expert tip?
Make sure you have a slice (or two!) of pizza from NY Pizza Suprema or Lazzara and a bagel from Liberty!

What are your best tips for exploring NYC like a local?
Take the subway—at least give it a try. The subway is the fastest, cheapest, and most efficient way around the city. Plus, it operates 24/7. It can also be confusing, so check out one of the many subway guides online, or if you’re staying with us, ask!

Where’s the best place to take kids of all ages?
Central Park! There really is something for everyone in this 843-acre green space, including the Zoo.
