How Long Should You Plan to Spend?

You’ll want to set aside about 2 to 3 hours to fully enjoy the New England Aquarium, though you might find yourself staying longer. The Giant Ocean Tank, located right at the heart of the aquarium, is absolutely can’t-miss. This multi-story exhibit is packed with dazzling marine life and offers the perfect opportunity to stop and marvel at the details. If you’re bringing kids along, don’t forget to leave some extra time to explore the hands-on touch tanks and kid-friendly exhibits that make the experience even more engaging.

What Makes It Stand Out?

The New England Aquarium is special for so many reasons, but one in particular is its commitment to combining incredible live aquatic exhibits with a deep focus on marine conservation. The Giant Ocean Tank is a true centerpiece of this beautiful facility, featuring a lively Caribbean coral reef filled with everything from sea turtles and stingrays to schools of vibrant tropical fish. Another must-see is the Edge of the Sea exhibit, where you can get up close and personal with tide pool creatures like sea stars and hermit crabs. You also can’t beat the penguins, which are housed right by the entrance and provide a little comic relief with their adorable antics. What’s more, the aquarium is serious about protecting the planet, with educational programs and behind-the-scenes conservation efforts that show how they’re making a difference every day.

Are Whales Part of the Visit?

Although you won’t see whales inside the aquarium itself, they do take ocean exploration a step further by partnering with local operators for seasonal whale-watching tours. These in-depth tours give visitors an exclusive chance to head out onto the harbor waters and get the opportunity to come face-to-face with humpback whales, minke whales, and playful pods of dolphins. It’s the ultimate way to expand your aquarium experience and witness marine life in its natural habitat.

Is it ethical to visit the New England Aquarium?

Yes, it is. The New England Aquarium takes great pride in its ethical and sustainable practices, making it one of the country’s leaders in animal care and ocean conservation. The aquarium is known for things like rescuing and rehabilitating injured or endangered sea turtles alongside global programs aimed at protecting marine ecosystems. To top it all off, the aquarium’s focus on public education about ocean health and sustainability inspires visitors to care deeply about our planet and take steps toward a more sustainable future.
