Journey to the 70s at Ethyl’s in New York

Ethyl’s Interior

Since reopening its doors in October, Ethyl’s has been a popular New York City hotspot for 1970s-inspired dance and live music in Williamsburg. Ethyl’s transports guests back to a glitzier time, from decor to the music to the drinks. Ethyl’s is the creation of Charlie Sub and Gerard Renny, two natives of New York with nightlife roots. Sub’s father’s rock club in Queens (The Coventry) aided in the rise of bands like The Ramones and Kiss, while Renny spent years at ‘Disco di tutti Disco,’ Studio 54.

Ethyl’s Reopens in Williamsburg

“We updated the space, so now it’s split into two sections, allowing guests to enjoy two different experiences,” Renny told us. “A neighborhood bar in the front and a more intimate clubby performance space in the back, complete with its own bar and a dance floor. We want to provide Williamsburg with a new venue for live music.”

The Menu at Ethyl’s

The menu at Ethyl’s features a variety of appetizers, burgers and wings. Appetizers include Banana Spiders (crispy plantains) and Ethylz pretzels (Brooklyn pretzels served with spicy brown mustard). The burger menu includes the Original Fi’Dolla’ Burger, the Billy Burger and a plant-based Beyond Burger. Other highlights include the Dirty Water Dog and Crispy Shrimp Tacos.

“I’m most excited for customers to try our new Jerk Chicken Wings with Mike’s Hot Honey and cool ranch; it’s the perfect bite of sweet and salty,” Renny said of the menu highlights. “I think people will also really dig our French Onion Mac & Cheese; it’s a game changer and the ultimate comfort food dish!” The fun selection of dishes is a refreshing addition to the NYC scene.

70s Vibes at Ethyl’s

While the space at Ethyl’s is updated, it still pays homage to the 1970s vibes that made it popular. “We, of course, have our signature disco ball at the center of the dance floor, and guests will still be able to enjoy our classic 70s films and Studio 54 footage on our TVs,” Renny explained. “We also have kept our walls plastered with our signature posters and memorabilia to take our guests back in time to New York City’s golden days of Disco, Punk and Glam Rock.”

Whether you’re looking to dance the night away to your favorite 1970s hits or catch a live show from some of the best up-and-coming artists in the city, Ethyl’s is the place to be. With its funky atmosphere and great drinks, it’s no wonder Ethyl’s is a popular nightlife destination in the Big Apple.
