Mandalay Bay & Delano Las Vegas

We asked Mandalay Bay and Delano Las Vegas concierge Supi Samrid for his favorite Las Vegas attractions, restaurants and more.

How long have you been in Las Vegas?

I have been living in Las Vegas on and off for about nine years.

Tell me about one of your favorite places to send first-time Vegas visitors.

My favorite place would be Skyfall Lounge at Delano Las Vegas. It has a breathtaking view of the Strip and welcoming feeling at the lounge. This gives a great first impression of our city to visitors.

I want to update my Facebook photo. What should I have in the background of my selfie?

I would suggest the Las Vegas sunset skyline view from the patio of Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay. This iconic view in your background will be one of your memorable Facebook photos. Watching the sun set over our city and the Las Vegas neon lights illuminate the night is priceless.

Tell me about your favorite hidden gem in Las Vegas.

My favorite is Kaiseki Yuzu. It is a quaint and small restaurant that specializes in a Kaiseki traditional multicourse Japanese dinner. They require the reservation three days in advance for Kaiseki dinner course. They have the best homemade tofu, kama, and fresh sashimi in town. This place is a true gem for authentic Japanese in Las Vegas.

Where should I eat if I want to celebrate a special occasion? How hard is it to get a reservation while I’m in Las Vegas?

Joël Robuchon at MGM Grand. This multicourse tasting menu restaurant will give the most exquisite French culinary experience of your life. You will be dining in an extravagant mansion-like dining room. I would recommend to reserve table in advance or as soon as you land in Las Vegas.

What’s the most unusual request you’ve had as a concierge? What about the craziest request?

For me, it would be more of a memorable request. For instance, I had an international guest who had just flown to Las Vegas. He told me that he left his passport in a jacket in a taxi and needed a passport to fly out. But, he didn’t have a taxi number nor remember the color of a taxi. I went through the list of taxi cab providers in Las Vegas and made several phone calls. I was able to locate his passport and arranged for the taxi driver to drive it back to the hotel. The passport was returned to the rightful, and very thankful, owner.

And another instance: There was a female guest who arrived at the concierge desk and informed me that she needed help to find a mask for her Halloween costume. She handed me a sketch of the mask. It was a Catwoman mask with lace bunny ears. I made phone calls to surrounding costume stores but none of them had the item. Finally, I found a women’s boutique store that sells lace bunny ears and another store that could make a lace Catwoman mask for her. The guest was happy and went on to celebrate her Halloween.

Who is your favorite Las Vegas celebrity chef?

My favorite would be chef Michael Mina. He has a collection of unique restaurants in town and my personal favorite would be BARDOT Brasserie at ARIA. The Hunter’s waffle with duck confit and lobster omelet with caviar are must-try items.

I want to experience classic Las Vegas. Where do you recommend I go?

I would recommend a night visit to Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. You get a feel for the old vibe of Las Vegas and might even find coin-operated slot machines to play. Then, head over to the nearby Neon Museum for a night tour. You’ll see classic Vegas neon signs come to life.

Where do you like to do some people-watching in Las Vegas?

I like Mon Ami Gabi restaurant with a seat on the patio facing the Strip and Bellagio fountain. I enjoy watching the diverse crowd of visitors out and about.

What tips do you give first-timers?

I would suggest signing up for a casino rewards program such as an MGM Rewards card from MGM Resorts International properties. You will get a greater discount for shows when booking tickets in advance. Also, for nightclub or dayclub goers, purchase tickets online in advance. They will be less expensive and you will go through the line much faster than purchasing tickets at the door.

Describe your perfect evening out in Las Vegas.

My night would start with a helicopter tour overlooking glitzy Las Vegas Strip. Then, I would enjoy a small plate Italian dinner on the patio of LAGO restaurant at Bellagio Las Vegas while watching the spectacular dancing fountains. Afterward, I’d dance the night away at a DJ table at Hakkasan Nightclub at MGM Grand. Then I’d end the night with the in-room early breakfast to welcome the sunrise in a penthouse at Delano Las Vegas.
