WINTER PARK
Orlando is known for its marquee theme parks. And it’s certainly true that the bastions of entertainment and amusement draw millions of visitors to our area annually. But alongside Mickey Mouse and Harry Potter, Central Florida is home to a fantastic array of cultural and outdoor attractions that beckon visitors to see the broader picture. Just north of downtown, charming Winter Park is home to the Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour, one of the area’s oldest attractions. Relax on this one-hour narrated tour through the lakes and canals of beautiful Winter Park. Spot native wildlife, including birds and alligators, and see majestic waterfront homes along quaint canals as you learn the history of this sophisticated community, all for $14 for adults and $7 for children.

KELLY PARK
In nearby Apopka, enjoy another type of water adventure in Kelly Park, as you rent a tube and float down a river naturally fed by Rock Springs. After you complete the three-quarter mile float on the swift, crystal clear creek, which takes around 25 minutes, dry out in the sun on the beach or enjoy hiking the park’s trails. One word of advice: the park fills up quickly on the weekends, so arrive early. Admission is $3 per vehicle for one or two people and $5 per vehicle for three to eight.

BOK TOWER GARDENS
Further afoot, explore the natural beauty and architectural wonder of Bok Tower Gardens. This gorgeous 250-acre National Historic Landmark sits on Florida’s highest point, and features Olmsted-designed landscaped gardens crowned with a majestic bell tower that plays music by the hour. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children 5-12.

WONDERWORKS
Back in town, make time to explore all that International Drive has to offer, including Wonderworks.The interactive “laboratory” features 100 scientific experiences, such as hurricane and earthquake simulators, along with virtual-reality sports, an indoor ropes course and a laser-tag arena. General admission tickets are $33.99 for adults and $24.99 for children 4-12.
ICON PARK
If you’re still looking for fun, find it at the attractions of ICON Park, where you can visit SeaLife Aquarium, hobnob with the famous at Madame Tussauds, and ride The Wheel, a 400-foot-tall observation wheel that offers sweeping views.
